The Marcus Milling Legendary Geoscientist Award, established in 1999,
joins the ranks of prestigious geoscientist awards within
North America. The award is offered by the American Geosciences
Institute and the Foundation. It is given periodically to
a living geoscientist who has a long history of sustained
scientific achievement and exceptional service to the geoscience
profession.

This
endowment has been established to ensure continued future
support for the William L. Fisher Congressional Geoscience
Fellowship. Although more than thirty scientific and engineering
societies sponsor congressional fellows, this endowment
is the first of its kind, demonstrating a lasting commitment
for the geosciences. It has been named in honor of Dr. William
L. Fisher to commemorate his important geoscience contributions
and the key role he has played in development of geo-policy
decisions at the national level. 
The
AGI Congressional Geoscience Fellowship Endowment has been
named in honor of Dr. William L. Fisher to commemorate his
important geoscience contributions and the key role he has
played in development of geo-policy decisions at the national
level. Fisher has provided exceptional service to the nation,
his home state of Texas, the geological profession, and
the academic community. He is recognized as an outstanding
geoscientist and educator who has dedicated his career to
the understanding of both the economic and political realities
of mineral and energy resources, and one who has provided
unparalleled insights though applied geoscience research
into the distribution and recovery of the nation’s
oil and gas resources.
